In the Way of Mary
At the canonization of St. Marcellin Champagnat in 1999, Pope John Paul ll reminded the Marist Brothers that the Marist charism – the Marist way of being Christian – was not just for the Marist Brothers. The Marist charism was meant to be shared with others by all those who embrace the Marist values of simplicity, presence, family spirit, and love of work all done in the way of Mary.
The Marist Brothers in the United States offer a number of educational opportunities to share this charism. There are programs for:
- Marist Youth (High School Students)
- Marist Young Adults (College Age)
- Adults (School Personnel and Marist Lay people)
There are many opportunities for Marist Youth and Young Adults to connect with each other and with God, including retreats, camps, conferences, internships, mission trips and so much more.
Additionally, rooted in the Marist spirituality and tradition of making Jesus Christ known and loved, Marist Young Adults USA enables college-aged students to enrich their Christian faith through spiritual, social and service activities, both virtually and locally.

“And that is how it has also been with us, the Marists. The charism of Saint Marcellin Champagnat, present in the Institute of the Brothers, has put out shoots among the laity. To some of us, God has touched us and has given us a Marist heart. Certainly, more than our decision, it has been God taking the initiative. We cannot live any other way: We are Marists."
