The Marist Brothers most recent General Chapter meeting calls for all Marists to journey with children and young people on the margins of life and to respond boldly to emerging needs. In an effort to respond to the growing refugee crisis on the USA / Mexico border, The Marist Brothers began the Encuentro Project in El Paso, Texas in 2018. It is a collaborative project between the USA Province in conjunction with the Province of Mexico Occidental.

Brother Todd Patenaude (USA) and Brother Eduardo Navarro (Mexico) are coordinating this project offers both assistance to the thousands of refugees arriving at our USA border as well as the opportunity for many church and school groups to live at Annunciation House for a week and learn first-hand the difficult realities of our refugee brothers and sisters. Some of our Marist schools and Lay Marists in the United States have already engaged in this new project and many others will participate during this school year.
