Sixteen participants from seven different communities around the USA Province gathered in Esopus for the 2nd SOC1 offering of this school year. The group learned about Marcellin Champagnat’s life and spirituality from the Campus Ministers at Marist College, Br. Michael Flanigan and Miriam Eisenmenger. Two of our wise elders, Alice Miesnik and Jim O’Neill, presented on being a Marist educator and the characteristics of a Marist school. Tim Hagan talked with the group about understanding the present youth culture, which generated some great conversation. Jane Ann Carvalho shared her own personal journey to becoming Marist, beginning as a parent of three Roselle Catholic grads. Finally, on Tuesday morning, Ed Kennedy led the group through an exercise out at the pavilion (after a covering of snow arrived during the night!). The group talked about the WHY of what we do, using the game presented by Ed as the metaphor for purpose.
