Several weeks ago I sent you a letter about my serious budget crisis. Do you remember? I wrote that our 2015 funds to support my elderly and disabled Marist Brothers are dismally short of what’s needed. If I cannot balance the budget, we’re looking at grave consequences. It’s entirely possible that certain essential medical needs could become a luxury. I hope you agree that this cannot happen!
Indeed, many friends responded to my first letter with a generous donation, and every Marist Brother — young and elderly — is so very grateful. Sadly, though, I did not receive the response I prayed for, and I’m still $18,849 short of what’s needed to balance the budget.
I write today with an urgent plea for your support — and time is not on my side. We are already into 2015, and my budget is still in the red. I’ve squeezed and crunched every last nickel. I’ve tightened the belt as much as I can. But without that remaining $18,849, it feels like I’m left with only two choices. I can reduce the quality of care for my elderly and disabled Brothers, or I can just keep collecting the inevitable past due notices.
Of course there is a third choice…and that’s where you come in. Your gift has the power to protect my elderly and disabled Brothers’ continued care! You are my hope this New Year! Can I count on you to help balance the 2015 budget?
I want so much to give these men dignified, safe, and comfortable lives, yet with each passing year it grows more difficult to provide the modest, yet dignified, level of care they deserve.
What doesn’t add up is my budget. With a $18,849 shortfall, I cannot come close to covering all these growing costs. You are my only hope to get out of this tight spot and balance the budget.
I only ask that you send what you can afford. And if you feel that a $25 or $50 gift won’t make a difference, I assure you…it will! Consider the two nickels tucked in with my letter. The coins aren’t worth much on their own, but they have the potential to become thousands of dollars when added to many more gifts from many more Marist Brothers’ friends.
Last month we made a dent in the 2015 budget shortfall, but I urgently need another $18,849 in order to continue caring for my Brothers. I have faith that together we can meet the goal. I believe that the Lord brought me to you for a reason, and you will answer my prayers with a generous donation.
Just as you are here for my Brothers, they’re here for you, too! Please remember to write your prayer intentions on the enclosed response slip and send the slip back to me with your donation. Every Marist Brother wants to include your intentions in his daily prayers and as always, we will thank God for your continued support.
We look forward to hearing from you! Until then, my Brothers and I hope that every day of 2015 glows with good cheer and happiness for you and your family.
With sincere gratitude,
Br. Hugh P. Turley, F.M.S.
