Leader: Let us pray for a willingness to accept the challenge of the Lord.
All: O God of all, You have presented us with the challenge to serve all people by sharing with them the new life, the new Spirit of Christ. Grant us the courage to accept such a challenge, the wisdom to discern Your call, and the generosity to give ourselves to it completely. May we give example to those you continue to call to our way of life. This we ask through Christ our Lord. Amen.
First Reading: Rm. 8:28-30
We know that God makes all things work together for the good of those who love him who have been called according to his decree. Those whom he foreknew, he predestined to share the image of his Son, that the Son might be the first-born of many brothers. Those he predestined, he likewise called; those he called, he also justified and those he justified, he in turn glorified.
Psalm: Ps. 84:1-2, 3, 10, 11 – Antiphon, Verse 12
Antiphon: O Lord of hosts, happy are those who trust in you!
How lovely Your dwelling,
O Lord of hosts!
My soul yearns and pines
for the courts of the Lord.
My heart and flesh cry out
for the living God.
O God, look kindly on our shield;
look upon the face of Your anointed.
Better one day in Your courts
than a thousand elsewhere
Better the threshold of the house of my God
than a home in the tents of the wicked.
Quiet Reflection: Lent is a time to re-focus on our Baptismal call and renew our fidelity to Christ. How will your words and example this season inspire others to listen for Christ’s call in their lives?
Prayers of Petition
Response: God, increase our love.
Leader: We come before our God to present these special intentions:
- That we may clearly understand the challenge of the Gospel to live out our faith by giving ourselves to it each day, we pray…
- That we may respond with continued generosity to the ways in which Christ still calls each of us, we pray…
- That each of us may validate our baptismal commitment in love and service to all God’s people, we pray…
- For an increase of vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, brotherhood, sisterhood and lay ministries, especially to our Marist family, we pray…
- For those who have already given their lives in service and love to carry on the work of Christ, we pray…
- Let us pray for our special intentions…
Leader: God, hear these special requests we make today. We renew our faith in Your promise that whatever we ask in faith shall not go unanswered. Hear us and bless us through Christ our Lord.
The Lord’s Prayer
Closing Prayer: (by Pope John Paul II)
All: Lord Jesus, as You once called the first disciples to make them fishers of men, let Your sweet invitation continue to resound: Come, follow me!
Give young men and women to the grace of responding quickly to Your voice. Support our bishops, priests and consecrated people in their apostolic labor.
Grant perseverance to [...] all those who are carrying out the ideal of a life totally consecrated to Your service.
Awaken in our community a missionary eagerness. Lord, send workers to Your harvest and do not allow humanity to be lost for the lack of pastors, missionaries and people dedicated to the cause of the Gospel.
Mary, Mother of the Church, model of every vocation, help us to say Yes to the Lord who calls us to cooperate in the divine plan of salvation. Amen.
