If every Marist Brothers’ friend who reads this letter finds it in their heart to help us with a gift – large or small – we could resolve a serious security issue in one of our retirement facilities.
The issue concerns a particularly large 4-story facility, with our elderly and disabled Brothers’ bedrooms up on the top two floors. In the evening or early morning hours, when the Brothers are in their bedrooms and the nighttime nurse is at her fourth floor station, answering ground floor doors brings up genuine concerns.
Safety is concern #1. Exactly who’s ringing the doorbell at 9 PM? Is it a suspicious visitor or the pharmacy’s delivery person bringing much needed emergency medication? Guessing who’s at the door is never a safe way to go!
Our elderly and disabled Brothers’ nurse could go to the door and ask, “Who’s there?” In the dark of night, talking through a door isn’t good enough. It’s not the level of safety our Brothers and nurse deserve!
The solution, which would protect everyone at all times, is to install a commercial-level, closed circuit TV security system. Our elderly Brothers and staff could safely confirm a visitor’s identity, speak with them directly and then, with peace of mind, buzz in properly identified guests – whatever time of day or night it is.
Unfortunately, this invaluable layer of security will cost $13,269! Until we have the required funds, the project is sadly on hold.
Can we count on your gift to help cover the cost of the security system? Whatever you can afford will be an enormous help and greatly appreciated.
I understand that $13,269 is a lot of money – although this is not a simple home doorbell/buzzer system. This is a commercial application that includes multiple cameras and two-way communication capabilities at multiple building entrances. There will also be multiple monitoring stations within the Marist Brothers’ retirement facility, so our Brothers and their nurses can quickly and safely verify visitors without opening the door. Accomplishing all this includes costly hardware as well as a complex installation process.
In short, this is first-rate safety. But without your help, the system is out of reach. Your support is so important – whether you send $15, $25, or more. Every gift makes a difference!
Consider the two nickels traveling with my letter. The coins alone can’t buy much. Add many more nickels and the total quickly grows. In the same way, if every Marist Brothers’ friend sends a gift, the support keeps multiplying. Before long, we’ll have the $13,269 needed to purchase and install a security system that will keep everyone in our 4-story Marist Brothers’ retirement facility safe and sound.
You know, our elderly and disabled Brothers spend time each day in the Chapel, and when your gift arrives, they will want to show their deep appreciation by adding your special intentions to their daily prayers. So please, remember to write your intentions on the enclosed response slip and send it back to me along with your donation.
I pray we will hear from you. Until then, I hope you have the time and good health to enjoy the remaining days of summer. May you have a wonderful month, filled with laughter, kindness, and joy!
God bless you for caring,
Br. Hugh P. Turley, F.M.S.
