Christmas Greetings, dear Friends,
With Christmas just a month away, every Marist Brother joins me in sending you our best wishes for a joyful, blessed holiday season. I also want to thank you for taking a moment to read my letter. There’s so much going on this time of year – so I’ll get straight to the point.
We very much need your help to cover the steep unexpected costs to repair the 25+ year old elevator in a 3-story Marist Brothers’ retirement facility. As I explained in my previous letter, our elderly and disabled Brothers, ages 77 to 88, who call this building home, depend on this elevator. It’s the only way they can safely move between their Community Room, dining room, and bedrooms up on the top two levels.
Many Marist Brothers’ friends responded to my first letter with a generous gift – helping us pay down the original $41,845 repair bill. However, we fell short of our goal by about $12,948. If you already mailed a donation, we appreciate your kindness and we will be very grateful for any additional gift you can share.
We’re counting on your help! Please remember our Brothers with a gift this Christmas season.
The exorbitant invoice came as quite a shock to everyone – with repairs going far beyond replacement parts. We learned that the elevator was not up to code, which demanded immediate safety updates as well as a new motor, new wiring, new cables, and electrical renovations. Essentially, the elevator needed a total overhaul!
I can’t stress enough how much every gift matters. Whether you tuck $15, $25, or more in the enclosed envelope, your generosity is greatly appreciated. This was an unexpectedly large repair bill, and we’re struggling to cover it.
Whatever you can share will be such a blessing this Christmas!
While we realized that the elevator overhaul would stretch our budget precariously thin, it was imperative that we quickly initiate all necessary updates. How could we ask an elderly Brother with arthritic knees or a weak heart to climb three flights of stairs to his bedroom? As for Brothers who rely on a walker or wheelchair, climbing stairs is not an option!
I’m sure you see how important it is to keep our Brothers’ elevator working safely – and how much your support means to us. If you already sent a donation, won’t you please consider an extra gift this Christmas season?
I have faith that you will help us! And to show my appreciation, I tucked a gift for you in with my letter. I hope the special Christmas prayer card brings you happiness.
I also enclosed a nickel with my letter. The coin alone is only 5¢ – but as you add more nickels the total grows! In the same way, if all of our friends send a gift, we will soon have the $12,948 needed to cover the entire elevator repair project.
Every gift is important and makes a difference!
As soon as your gift arrives, every Marist Brother will thank God for your support. We also look forward to including your prayer intentions in our Christmas devotions. So please remember to write your intentions on the enclosed response slip and return it along with your gift.
In closing, my Brothers and I hope your days are happy and bright – during this joyous Christmas season and throughout the coming year.
