Marist International Assembly

The Marist International Assembly began September 15 in Nairobi, Kenya. Representing the United States are Ms. Alice Miesnik, principal of Marist High School in Bayonne, New Jersey; Mrs. Maureen Hagan, campus minister at Roselle Catholic High School in Roselle, New Jersey and Brother Steve Milan, director of the Marist Young Adult program.

Dear Fellow Marist,

The second Marist International Mission Assembly (II MIMA) will take place in Nairobi, Kenya from September 15-27. What is an assembly?

According to the Institute’s website, “An international assembly is a special moment in the life of the Institute which offers the opportunity for
brothers and laity to share, reflect on, celebrate, and build together Marist life and mission on equal terms, looking at the present times and envisioning the future, as we remain faithful to the charism. It is also an opportunity to strengthen our international and intercultural dimension at the service of children and youth.”

As a province we have prepared for this international gathering through a variety of prayers, presentations and discussions around the topics of Marist spirituality, vocations and mission culminating in a “lift over to Nairobi” prayer service celebrated in each of our ministries. We are pleased to represent the fruit of this process during our participation in the assembly. We would also like to share our experience with you.

We have created a BlogSpot where we will post what is happening during the assembly as well as our thoughts, insights and photos. We invite you to share in this experience by visiting the site, http://nairobiassembly2014.blogspot.com/. There you can sign up to receive email alerts for when new material is posted and can share your thoughts and insights. We also invite you to visit http://www.champagnat.org/nairobi.php for additional information about the assembly.

We look forward to sharing our experiences with you both during and after the assembly and look forward to your input.

Sincerely,

Maureen Hagan, Alice Miesnik and Steve Milan
