Br. Richard Shea is celebrating his 70th Jubilee as a Marist Brother this year. Br. Richard attended the Marist Brothers Juniorate in Esopus from 1951-1953 before entering St. Joseph Novitiate in Tyngsboro, MA in 1953, becoming a Novice in 1954, and professing his First Vows in 1955. Br. Richard completed a BA in History at Marist College (Poughkeepsie, NY) in 1958 and an MA in Government from Fordham University (New York, NY) in 1963. During his career, he taught at St. Helena/Msgr. Scanlan High School in the Bronx, NY (1958-63 and 1968-70), at ND Kidapawan College in the Philippines (1963), at Marist School, Marikina, Manilla, Philippines (1964), at ND of Marbel University in Philippines (1965-68). In 1969 he did post-graduate studies at Cornell University in Ithica, NY, before teaching at Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie, NY (1970-72). He worked as a school administrator, teacher and guidance counselor at Archbishop Molloy High School in Briarwood, NY (1972-82 and 1992-2015), and as an administrator at St. Mary’s High School in Manhasset, NY (1982-86). He also served as the Provincial of the Marist Brothers Esopus Province from 1986–1992. Since retiring, he continues to volunteer at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, NY, as well as at Ozanam Nursing Home in Queens, NY.
