Celebrating 75 years of being a Marist Brother!

Br. Alfred George is celebrating his 75th Jubilee as a Marist Brother this year. He entered the Marist Brothers' Novitiate in Tyngsboro, MA in 1947. After taking his first vows in 1948, he worked for one year cooking for more than 100 students at the Marist Juniorate in Tyngsboro. He graduated from Marist College in 1952 and began his teaching career at Central Catholic High School in Wheeling, WV (1952-1954) and at Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Bronx, NY (1954-1955). He spent the next 34 years as a missionary in the Philippines serving in numerous roles including teacher, campus minister, coach, principal, and as a leader in several Marist formation houses. Br. Alfred returned to the USA in 1989 and lived and worked at Roselle Catholic High School in New Jersey for many years. He taught French and was their attendance officer, and spent over 20 summers sharing his missionary experiences in various churches every weekend to help raise significant funds for the Marist missions. He also volunteered for one semester to work in our Marist mission in Liberia, West Africa. Br. Alfred is now retired and happily residing at our Champagnat Hall Retirement Community in the Bronx, NY.
