Dear Friend of the Marist Brothers,
A few weeks ago I shared with you my very serious dilemma. No matter how hard I tried, I could not get my budget for 2016 to work.
The bad news is this… my shortfall is still over $37,000.
I have barely been able to pay the bills for 2015 and the bills for 2016 will soon be in the mail. What I fear most are the Past Due notices.
I think you may know from your own experiences that when you get behind on your payments, it is almost impossible to catch up. You keep taking from one pocket to fill another and it never stops. Worst of all is the embarrassment of being late on your payments.
That is why I need your help NOW.
It seems that every year my shortfall gets bigger. That is because the cost of goods and services keeps going up.
We support over 70 Brothers who need some level of skilled care. They require medications, which are very expensive. Nursing care must be provided. Foods for special diets are more costly. Lights, heat, insurance, snow removal, building maintenance, phones… the needs go on and on.
I am not telling you anything you do not already know or have not experienced yourself. The state of the economy is still fragile, and it is hard to make a commitment for charitable giving without first taking care of your own bills and your own family. I know this is true.
But I also know that you have a generous heart. You have helped me in the past, and it gives me the courage to ask for your help once again. Please send as generous a gift as possible to help me balance my budget for 2016. So, far the magic number is $37,000.
It sounds like a big number, but it is possible to achieve if enough of our friends help us. The two nickels enclosed is a start. Return them to me and multiply them by as many dollars as you can comfortably afford.
My time is running short and my anxiety is growing. I feel the heavy responsibility of caring for our elderly and disabled Brothers. I want so much to offer them dignity, safety and comfort in these later years. This is not much to ask.
Please let me hear from you right away, and when you send your gift, remember to include your intentions on the enclosed reply form. Our Brothers look forward to remembering you in their prayers.
$37,000 is what I still need. Please help me achieve this goal to balance the budget for 2016.
May God bless you and yours in this New Year.
