Advent is a period of preparation extending over the four Sundays before Christmas. The word Advent comes from the Latin advenio, “to come to,” and refers to the coming of Christ. This first refers to our celebration of Christ’s birth at Christmas. Secondly, to the coming of Christ in our lives through Grace and the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Finally, this refers to His Second Coming at the end of time. This Advent Season join our Brothers as they pray in a special way each week while lighting the candles of the Advent wreath.
God of justice and peace,
from the heavens you rain down mercy and kindness,
that all on earth may stand in awe and wonder
before your marvelous deeds.
Raise our heads in expectation,
that we may yearn for the coming day of the Lord
and stand without blame before your Son, Jesus Christ,
who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
Amen.
