Every summer our elderly Brothers in a larger Marist Brothers’ retirement facility lock down the windows and turn up their bedroom air conditioning unit. Those window AC units hum almost nonstop – June, July, August, September – and we still can’t achieve a healthy temperature. It feels like all we do is throw more money into our soaring electricity bills and overuse our planet’s precious resources.
So this year we took an important step!
We installed strategically placed, ductless cooling units in the retirement facility. Now we can cool down hot zones, like hallways, that force window AC units to overwork.
These new cooling units will lower our energy use and deliver big cost savings down the road. However, the initial investment was steep. We needed four units, at $2,000 each, and spent $1,600 for electrical work and installation. That brought our investment total to $9,600.
Today I ask for your generous support. Whether you can afford to share $15, $25, or more, every gift will make a difference and bring us closer to the full amount we need. Our elderly Brothers will be so grateful – and so will our planet Earth!
Your gift to help us cover the $9,600 investment will be greatly appreciated.
Were the new cooling units a smart investment? Absolutely! Now, even when the outdoor temperatures begin to sizzle, our elderly Brothers’ window AC units no longer cycle on and off every 10 minutes. We’re keeping the indoor temperatures comfortable, consuming less precious energy, reducing our carbon footprint, and decreasing our energy bills.
If you’re concerned that your gift won’t make a difference, I assure you – it will! It’s like the two nickels tucked in with my letter.
The coins alone can’t buy much, but as you add many more nickels the total grows. In the same way, when every Marist Brothers’ friend sends a gift the support adds up.
We’re counting on your generosity to help cover this important investment in our elderly Brothers’ wellbeing and our planet’s natural resources.
And as soon as your gift arrives, my Brothers and I will want to thank God for your generosity. So please, write your intentions on the enclosed response slip and send it back to me along with your gift.
In closing, I want to thank you for helping us care for our elderly and disabled Brothers. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.
